Visualising real-time public transport data

Digital Twin Victoria

Using 3D technology to provide insights and support data-led decision-making

The Digital Twin Victoria (DTV) program has developed a platform that’s created a digital replica of Victoria using digital twin technology, geospatial data and spatial innovation. The DTV platform brings together masses of 2D, 3D and live data into a single online place so developers, planners, and even the public, can generate valuable insights and support data-led decision-making.

Dataset used:
GTFS Realtime

In collaboration with the Transport Victoria Open Data Portal, the DTV platform is leveraging real-time public transport data in combination with 3D mapping technology to bring the public transport network to life. The video above provides a sneak peek into how real-time metro train information looks on a dynamic 3D map.

This showcases the power of integrating real-time data through the DTV platform to support smarter decision-making and improve public transport experiences. Looking ahead to 2025, this partnership will introduce new data products via the Transport Open Data Portal, including advanced spatial datasets and enhanced real-time feeds.
