Updates to GTFS Real-time Data

Changes to Metro Trains GTFS-R data feeds

New information included in the Metro Trains GTFS-R data feeds

As Victoria’s public transport network grows and changes, passengers need updated real-time information to make decisions about their journeys using the right information at the right time.

We have improved Metro Trains GTFS-R data and it now includes the following additional information:
GTFS-R - Trip Updates - Schedule relationships, stop ID, and route ID will be added as Additional Fields to enhance real-time trip accuracy.
GTFS-R - Vehicle Positions - Route ID will be added as a Conditionally Required field to improve data details.

GTFS-R - Service Alerts - Information about planned and unplanned disruptions has been improved to include details about delays and bus replacement services. Route ID and Direction ID has been added as Additional Fields for better real-time trip information.

Please note: the information in the current ‘Required’ data fields remains the same and data feeds continue to follow the global standards and specifications. These data feeds will also still be hosted via the Data Exchange Platform, so there are no changes to the API keys.

When will these changes take effect?
GTFS-R Trip updates and Vehicle Positions: updated on 29 May
GTFS-R Service Alerts: updated on 19 June 2025
