Improving Platform Details

We are adding platform numbers to the 'GTFS Schedule'

New information to be included in the 'GTFS Schedule'

We know that planning a public transport journey on third-party apps that involves navigating a train station with more than two platforms can be challenging, as the current open data doesn’t include details about platform numbers. This means that passengers can only be directed to the entrance or ‘front door' of a station and need to rely on signage onsite to find the correct platform to continue their journey.

Adding platform numbers to the GTFS Schedule dataset also provides the information passengers need when buses replace train services. This extra detail will allow bus replacement routes and stop locations to be shown on roads for the first time, helping passengers better travel between train and bus replacement services.

What are the benefits?

ü Third-party journey planning apps will have the information needed to show which platform train services are arriving and departing. This will help passengers more accurately plan their journey no matter which app or tool they prefer to use.

ü Passengers will be well informed about finding out which metro train platform they need to go to when planning their trips, promoting a seamless, safe and reliable journey.

ü Passengers will also have better information when buses replacing trains.

When will these changes take effect?
